I am always surprised by posts like this. I don't disagree with Seth Godin's quote--yet I wonder at the fact that Americans pay to see films and participate in events that put simulate scary situations. Perhaps it's the simulation rather than the reality that makes the difference. Marketing with fear is a powerful tool.

it was the 'payoff' from Seth's article that made me think. "Without terror, you can't have terrorism."
Govermental terror, for keeping an entire country in fear, an official, publicized constant 'threat level'..and the lower the BNP growth rate, the higher the threat meter goes..all this to keep spending/loaning/growing the econmy.
As a european, i seem to understand less and less of the 'American Way'.
