Today's Notable Quote: "When the dog bites-When the bee stings...When I'm feeling sad...I simply remember my favorite things--And then I don't feel so bad" - chorus of My Favorite Things, (1959) Music by Richard Rodgers Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
I try to begin each day with an attitude of thankfulness and wonder. Sometimes, a seemingly simple thing...for instance, hot water in the shower...or the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee in the morning will set the day on a great course. The warm embrace of a loving family member--or even the enthusiastic "wag" of the dog's tail serve to help it along. These, and many other "simple pleasures" are numbered among my "Favorite Things".
Julie Andrews recited the following list in lyrical fashion as she spoke and sung the role of Fraulein Maria in Director Robert Wise's 1965 film version of The Sound of Music:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
