While checking into my hotel in Minneapolis last week, I spotted an interesting sign about "Bed bugs" out of the corner of my eye. Fortunately, it wasn't a warning to be on "the lookout". It was, nonetheless a bit unsettling until I inquired further.
It seems that a "new" technology has been developed which uses HEAT (140 degrees F) for a sustained period of time on bed bug friendly environs to render the creatures lifeless. This is an environmentally-friendly means of doing away with the "flesh-hungry" pests--replacing DEET - which, though effective on bed bugs, also caused the phenomenon known as "silent Spring" - preventing eggs from hatching. My hotel was hosting a workshop to demonstrate the use of the technology to area hotel and apartment owners.
Good to know that hotels are on top of the latest technology...even if their initial use and placement of signage temporarily shocks some of their patrons.
